FESTIVALS STALL (article first published : 2001-03-21)

In an unprecedented move in the live SA music industry, Southern Cross Festival organisers have included in their festival activities, a Festival's stall. This stall will represent festivals from around the country.

Organiser Zeta Roberts took the initiative to invite other festivals to showcase their events and merchandise. The stall will have on offer tickets to other festivals, past and future merchandise, flyers, information and, for emerging bands, a demo drop off bin to enable the bands to get their materials to the other events.

One of the regular complaints from young artistes is that they are unaware of the major festivals, what their submissions deadlines are or who to speak to. With this service, Southern Cross will undertake to distribute the demos directly to the relevant festivals. Artistes should clearly mark their submissions with contact details and which festival they are submitting their materials to.

Festivals that have been invited to represent themselves include: The Croc Rock Festival in Richards Bay (April 13 and 14l), The 5FM Easter Rock Festival in Gauteng (April 14l) ; Splashy Fen in Underberg (April 27 and 28), Oppikoppi in Fountainsview (August 10,11 and 12); Woodstock 3 The Pop Culture Experience in Heidelberg (September 28, 29 and 30) and Awesome Africa Festival in Shongweni (September 28,29 and 30)

Says Zeta Roberts: "We hope that this initiative will encourage a stronger synergy between the festival promoters and offer a service to the public and the musicians."
