MIMI COERTSE FOR SIBAYA CASINO (article first published : 2007-09-28)

Legendary, internationally-acclaimed opera star Mimi Coertse returns with the immensely popular Black Tie Ensemble to Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom’s iZulu Theatre on November 15 and 16 as one of the major events of the KwaDukuza Coast’s innovative Umdwebo Lifestyle festival.

The Business Connexion Opera Concert features Mimi Coertse hosting The Black Tie Ensemble who will entertain concert-goers to a selection of famous and well-known opera, operetta and musical arias. Mimi will give background information about the arias performed, sharing stories with the audience about her illustrious career.

The Black Tie Ensemble has provided many talented young South Africans with a unique opportunity to be vocally trained and to make a living from their talents. This team, which is entirely self-funded, with small private sponsorships from time to time, has become a widely known national cultural export.

Since its inception in 1998 under the guidance of founders Neels Hansen and Mimi Coertse, the Ensemble established itself as a performing entity with impeccable integrity with major recognition from critics, the corporate environment and audiences, as well as governments here and abroad.

The Ensemble truly reflects the diversity of cultures of South Africa and members see themselves not only as ambassadors for the art-form which they pursue but as role models and an inspiration for young people considering a career in the performing arts.

The Black Tie Ensemble consists of Louette Johnston (coloratura), Bongi Madlala (soprano) Dewald von Solms (tenor), Jonathan Boinamo (baritone), Veramarie Meyer (mezzo), Given Mabena (tenor) and Linda Zitha (baritone).The audience will be treated to a programme that includes music of Puccini, Bizet, Verdi, Gounod, Offenbach, Von Flotow, Saint-Saëns, Donizetti, Tosti, Leoncavallo and more. Favourite arias from Atilla, La Traviata, Faust, Madama Butterfly, Carmen, I Pagliacci, Rigoletto, Tales Of Hoffmann, Merry Widow, Pearlfishers, Marriage Of Figaro, Don Carlo, La Bohème, Fledermaus, La Traviata, Frühjahrsparade, Student Prince, Vogelhändler and more will feature.

There are two shows only at the iZulu Theatre on November 15 and 16 at 20h00. Tickets R135. Booking for all Umdwebo events can be made through Computicket.
