GLENWOOD COMMUNITY FORUM (article first published : 2008-08-29)

The second annual Glenwood Festival and Mardi Gras Parade offers a busy weekend of music, civic, sports and spiritual events to be held in and around Durban’s thriving suburb of Glenwood on the weekend of September 12 to 14 as part of Celebrate Durban’s busy season.

Applauded by the city as one of the most successful Celebrate Durban events last year, the pro-active Glenwood Community Forum once again hosts three days of interactive family events.

The Festival starts on September 12 with the Glenwood Community Proms. The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra presents a musical feast for the whole family at Glenwood Prep School. Tickets R60 for all ages on sale at Glenwood Prep School. Special performances by Melanie Lowe , Rowan Stuart and BraVa!. Bring picnic baskets, camp chairs and blankets.

A “Palettes in the Park” exhibition takes place in Bulwer Park on September 13 when local artists will set up their easels and paint in the park. The day concludes with a Mardi Gras parade, led by the Durban Girls’ High School Drummies and Glenwood High School Band, starting in Bulwer Park and ending in Davenport Road, where the Glenwood Night Market will be in operation from 17h00 until late evening. Watch the Sharks match on the big screen and enjoy the live jazz band and music by Dave Guselli.

Sponsors include the Ethekweni Municipality Celebrate Durban, Life Entabeni Hospital, Waltons Stationery Company, Tyson Properties Glenwood. For more information phone the Glenwood Festival Info Line on 074 4156729. For a detailed programme of events go to www.forum.glenwood.co.za
