TENSE TALE OF KATINKA KAT (article first published : 2003-06-25)

The Actors Co-operative once again brings holiday fun to the families of Durban and to out-of-town visitors in the form of a new play called The Terrifically Tense Tale of Katinka Kat.

Specifically written for the holiday market, the play will have a two-week run at the Durban Botanic Gardens. The story encompasses all that audiences have come to expect from the Co-op with the lovable orphaned kitty Katinka finding much sought-after friendship in her raggle-tag pooch co-star Shaggy Dog. Together this cutesy pair foil the evil plans of the villainous sushi chef Chow Sum Cat and his slinky side-kick Cecil the runaway clown.

Katinka Kat is played by delightful Actors Co-op newcomer Danielle Perlman with Shaggy Dog performed by Peter Hattingh. Co-stars Oded Rouche and David Cowley make up the performance team. Directed by Oded, the play has been workshopped by the team under the watchful eye of veteran children’s theatre practitioner Garth Anderson.

The Actors’ Co-operative is the recipient of the newly-established Fools Award for its Contribution to Youth Theatre in KZN.

Packed full of laughter and audience participation with face painting, competitions, group singing and prizes, The Terrifically Tense Tale of Katinka Kat is guaranteed to keep the little ones entertained for the morning. The play is performed in the Fern Dell enclosure at the Durban Botanic Gardens from July 7 to 18 at 11h00 (except Saturdays and Sundays).

Tickets R12 can be bought at the door or booked through Garth on 031 462 0566 or on 083 439 1532.
