THE DATE PRINCESS (article first published : 2003-06-25)

The Date Princess is a new hand puppet play, written and performed by Pamela Tancsik (Tekweni Puppetplays), about the story of a little princess suffering from an unknown sadness. Nothing can make her laugh, so the king approaches the old fairy Eleonore, who has not practiced her magic for a long time, to come up with some magic power to heal the princess.

The friendly house dragon Grichard and the jester Larifari have to help the forgetful fairy to remember her magic spells. After some confusion and much fun, the princess finds happiness. The show is suitable for children aged 3 to 10 and runs for 45 minutes. It will be performed from June 30 to July 4 at the Durban Botanic Gardens with an extra show at the Westville Library on July 2 at 10h00.

Pamela Tancsik is a puppeteer who started puppetry with the Münchner Marionettentheater Munich/Germany in 1977, where she performed operas by Mozart, Wagner and Carl Orff, with puppets. Tekweni Puppet plays was invited to the International Puppet Festival (23 Internationale Puppenspieltage Mistelbach) in Austria in October 2001, with the play African Fables and she is currently doing educational shows for schools in the rural areas.

For bookings contact Pamela on 031 266 207 or 082 403 1707
