NEW NAC BOARD (article first published : 2003-06-11)

The newly appointed Board of the National Arts Council comprises Ms Peggy Calata (Eastern Cape), Mr Nhlanhla Dalibhurhwa Mtaka (KZNl), Ms Linda Bukhosini (KZN), Ms Moira Granny Seape (Gauteng), Ms Nicky du Plessis (KZN), Mrs Jill Trappler (Western Cape), Mr Charles Mabaso (Gauteng), Mr Sjoerd Alkema (Free State), Mr Gomolemo Mokae (North West), Mr Dirk Badenhorst (Gauteng), Adv Mark Gordon (Gauteng), Dr TPL Dumisa (KZN), Dr John Kani (Gauteng) and Ms Lisa Combrinck (Gauteng).

The outgoing members of the Board nominated Dr John Kani and Ms Lisa Combrink for reappointment to the new Board.

The National Arts Council Provincial Representatives are, Mr Ronald Theys (Western Cape), Mr Morgan Moodaley (Northern Cape), Dr ETZ Mthiyane (KZN), Japan Mthembu (Gauteng), Selaelo Maredi (Limpopo), Prof B B Mkonto (Eastern Cape), Prof B Malefo (North-West), Mr Lebogang John Mathoko (Free State) and Mr Ray Phiri (Mpumalanga).

The Executive Committee was also announced and it includes Chairperson Dr Gomolemo Mokae (North West), Vice Chairperson Adv Mark Gordon (Gauteng), Ms Peggy Calata (Eastern Cape), Mr John Kani (Gauteng) and Mr Nhlanhla Dalibhurhwa Mtaka (KZN).

The National Arts Council is a statutory body established in 1999 in terms of the National Arts Council Act, Act No. 56 of 1997. The mandate of the Council is to develop policy and oversee funding in the arts sector. It receives an annual grant from the Department of Arts and Culture.
