STITCH (article first published : 2003-05-30)

A funky original new comedy intended to have you in “stitches” comes to the Square Space Theatre on campus in June. Stitch was originally presented as …. And Don’t Forget to Breathe” which was staged at the NOT (the Grahamstown Festival) at DHS last year. This original and much applauded festival highlight has been re-worked and up-dated for the new season.

On the surface it is a humorous slice-of-life play about four women companions hiking in the Berg. It seems to be about such profound issues and cooking rosters, ablutions and the ability to erect a tent. But a scratch below the surface will find it explores why women bother to get involved with men, why they need their dads so much…. and how they learn to combat wild mountain men!

Written by Catherine Mace and Melissa Wood, it features Catherine Mace, Melissa Wood and Calli Denton-Major with direction by Mike Broderick.

It promises to have audiences laughing and crying as they consider how to fit their lives into a one-man tent. It is a journey that'll have asks why we didn't do more with our day today, or why we bank so much on tomorrow. It is a reminder to take time to celebrate the importance of living.

Stitch runs in the Square Space Theatre with previews on June 3 and 4 with the official opening on June 5 to run until June 28 nightly at 19h30. Tickets R45 can be reserved with Catherine on 073 237 7074 or R50 through Computicket on 011 340 8000 or 083 915 8000.

There are no shows on Sunday and Monday and "pay what you can" every Tuesday (door sale tickets only).
