THEY SAY & MUNG (article first published : 2003-04-21)

The Wits School of Arts (WSOA) and the Performing Arts Administration present They Say, written by WSOA Master’s candidate, Gerhard Marx and co-directed by Gerhard Marx and Lara Foot-Newton.

Within a landscape of forgetting, They Say explores the inherent poetic potential of objects and the role that objects play in the “making” of memory. They Say throws together disparate stories and accounts, leaving actor Rob van Vuuren trying to weave these stories into a meaningful narrative which eventually leads him to find a way of “drowning” a table!

Mung is one man physical comedy storytelling at its most exhilarating. Sci-fi fantasy meets slapstick comic absurdism in this story of two very different sets of friends brought together by fate. Mung is written and performed by Rob Van Vuuren who has toured both of his one man shows, Mung and Tangkupa, throughout the country to critical acclaim. He is currently touring the achingly funny The Most Amazing Show hosted by the irrepressible and charming duo Corne and Twakkie.

They Say and Mung run in Hilton College Theatre from June 4 to 6. Bookings on 033 343 0126.
