YPC STUDENTS FOR SWITZERLAND (article first published : 2003-03-30)

Two Young People for Change students have been invited to learn French at the Swiss School Lycee Jean-Piaget in Switzerland. The two students - Thula Mthembu and Mbali Nkwanyana – are both 20 years old and are from Kwa Mashu.

The students will attend a special International class designed to teach French to students from all over the world. The class will include students from South America, Asia, Southeast Asia and Europe.

This adventure came as a result of the Organization’s fundraising efforts when they were invited to introduce YPC at the Swiss School’s HIV/AIDS awareness Bash. Pleased by what the youth of Kwa Mashu were doing for their community, the deputy director of Lycee Jean-Piaget invited two students from YPC to be part of International French experience starting in April 2003. The Youth Council of Neuchatel Municipality in Switzerland funds the programme.

Six delegates from Switzerland including the Deputy Director of the school Marc Renaud and a representative of an AIDS organization (Group SIDA Neuchatel) will be coming to visit YPC from April 11 to 20. When they leave, the two students will go with them.

As part of its community involvement Young People for Change will stage its third monthly Open Day at Inkanyisweni Hall for F&G section of Kwa Mashu in which the two young students participate in Drama, Poetry, Music and dance. Among the guests will be the six delegates from Switzerland.
