AUDITIONS FOR GREASE (article first published : 2003-03-9)

If you are a high school learner between 13 and 18 years old, have theatre skills and want to appear in a major musical – then audition for this year’s UBR Young Performers Show Grease on March 15 from 10h00.

Following the last two year’s successful Young Performers Show Curtain Up and One Voice, the search is on once again for 30 talented young individuals: 15 boys and 15 girls. This year’s musical Grease is the watershed 50’s family musical, with four songs from the movie which were not in the original stage version.

The cast must demonstrate leadership skills, initiative and commitment as well as performing talent. They will gain valuable experience by working in a professional theatre environment while learning quality skills and having loads of fun in the process.

The show is sponsored by Unilever Bestfoods Robertsons and will be backed by a team of professionals - Production Manager is Linda Van Der Veen of Snazzi Events. The director is Peter Court, with vocal direction by Charon Williams-Ros and musical direction by Dawn Selby.

Interested participants must be able to sing, dance and act. It is not necessary to prepare anything in advance but those who feel more comfortable with a prepared piece are welcome to bring one.

The criteria for the successful participants will be that they must be available to rehearse on weekends during term time and perform during the July school holidays. They will need to find their own way to and from rehearsals each day and be available for the two week run at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from July 3 to 13.

Auditions will be held on March 15 at the Rhumbelow Theatre at 42 Cunningham Rd (off Bartle Road) in Umbilo. Those attending must be there between 10h00 and 10h30 for registration. Auditions will take about four hours so it is advisable to bring a packed lunch and refreshments.

More information from Linda van der Veen of Snazzi Events on 031 303 4589.
