KING KONG (article first published : 2002-11-19)

Laugh until you cry! King Kong, one of Durban’s best-loved stage comedies, finishes its run at the KwaSuka Theatre in Greyville, this Sunday (November 24).

The award-winning production, which has only played for one previous season here two years ago, has just garnered an almost unprecedented 10/10 rating from Billy Suter in The Mercury: “A delight for the young of every age, a showcase that is wild with imagination, it is a truly classic piece of local theatre that no theatre fan, young or old, should miss.”

It features its original stars, theatre icons Aldo Brincat and Michael Gritten - the unstoppable duo who take their audience on a zany adventure trip with their side-splitting take on the famous 1930’s silver-screen block-buster about the Gorilla and the Girl.

King Kong plays from Tuesday to Saturdays at 19h30 and on Sunday at 18h30. Tickets R45. Book on 082 823 1602.

“It is seldom that a piece of theatre fulfils all a theatre-lover’s needs. The need to be thrilled, to be entertained, to be moved, to be amused, to be amazed……… “King Kong” does all that and more. There are moments so funny you get hiccoughs, and moments so sad and tender your eyes flood,” wrote Giselle Turner in The Daily News.
