AUDITIONS FOR STEEL MAGNOLIAS (article first published : 2002-11-10)

Greg King's KickstArt Theatre Company has just secured the rights for a new production of the heart-warming comedy-drama Steel Magnolias to be staged at the Kwasuka Theatre in Greyville during the festive season. This is the original play on which the 1980's movie was based, starring Julia Roberts, Shirley Maclaine, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah, Dolly Parton and Sally Field.

KickstArt will be holding an open audition for the role of M'Lynn, played by Sally Field in the movie. The character is a socially prominent career woman in her late 40ís or 50ís, the mother of a young bride (played in the film by Julia Roberts). The production will be directed by Greg King. A strong dramatic actress with a convincing southern American accent is required. Candidates should be available for daytime rehearsals through November and for a three week run beginning in early December.

Auditions will take place on November 11 at the Kwasuka Theatre. Actresses interested in auditioning for this role will be requested to do a prepared reading from the script and if they wish, may present any other dramatic scene or monologue which they feel will best show their capabilities. Scenes should not exceed three minutes.

Interested persons should contact Greg on 083 544 2006 as soon as possible to arrange a suitable time and collection of scripts.
