RUSSELL PETERS: MADE IN INDIA (article first published : 2002-11-10)

Internationally renowned stand-up comedian Russell Peters is launching the world tour of his hilarious new show Made in India in Durban in November, going on to tour eight cities on four continents during 2003.

Made In India is a 100-minute presentation of the very best of Russell's repertoire and will include a performance by a local comedian.

East Coast Radio and Near Entertainment, will hold a talent search to find this guest act. Russell is known for his “cheeky” brand of comedy which is rude without being offensive. He draws on his Asian and Canadian roots, focusing on the merge of cultures between East and West and takes a humorous look at a unique sub culture that has emerged - Indians who have grown up in Western countries.

This should be of particular interest to Durban residents of Indian origin - KZN having the largest Indian population outside India.

While controversial at times, he avoids being senselessly derogatory and combines his achingly funny observations with a likeable stage persona and cheeky grin.

Russell first performed in South Africa as the MC at the 2001 Smirnoff International Comedy Festival and was seen in KZN mid 2002 in the East Coast Radio HA HA Comedy Showcase.

The Durban show of Made in India will be recorded for DVD, VHS and CD application and will be distributed globally. Performances run from November 18 to December 8 in the Playhouse. Book at Computicket.
