BOTANIC GARDENS PUPPETS (article first published : 2002-09-16)

After their successful run last holidays, local puppeteers Adi Paxton and Pamela Tancsik will present a fun and entertaining double bill puppet show in Durban Botanic Gardens from October 1 to 4 at 10h30.

The daily programme includes two one woman shows.

Adi Paxton (aka Cherry the Clown) will present Pet's Tale in which Petric "Pet" for short wants to find out who he is and where he belongs. In his search he meets many possible pals. This show has been very successfully received at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, the Hermanus Festival and others over the last few years.

Pamela Tancsik (Tekweni Puppetplays) performs Pinocchio's Adventure. The show starts with the story of how Pinocchio came alive. He feels lonely because he has nobody to party with. He meets different characters and finds out that it is not so easy to find the right friend. This is a classical hand puppet play for the whole family.

Both stories deal with friendship. The different characters are in search of friends and find them in different ways. The stories feature hand puppets, storytelling, magic, mime and balloon-animals. With lots of audience participation there is fun for the whole family.

Audiences are encouraged to bring along a picnic, rugs and the whole family. Stay on after the show to feed the ducks (feed will be available at R2 per bag.) The venue is close to the St Thomas Road entrance of the gardens with toilets nearby and an alternative indoor venue in case of rain.

Tickets R12 at door. More information from Adi on 031 201-2515 or 083 725-0925 or Pamela on 031 266-2207 or 082 403-1707.
