GREEN MAMBA (article first published : 2002-09-5)

After taking this year’s Grahamstown National Art’s Festival by storm, Green Mamba returns to KZN for the month of September. The show will enjoy a local season in Durban and will also appear at the Hilton Festival.

artSMart reviewer/editor described the show as “Hilarious, clever, incisive and bang up to date” (see review in Festivals pages)

Green Mamba is a venomous satirical comedy, taking a hilarious look at the trials and tribulations of life in the new South Africa. Through a series of 15 ingenious sketches, FNB VITA award winners Ben Voss and John van de Ruit take the audience on “a sidesplitting journey through a day in the life of this weird and wonderful country.”

From an in-depth study of the refined art of car-guarding, to a savage send up of the Big Brother Household, the humour runs thick and fast culminating in an enthralling “horse race”! Green Mamba is directed by Greig Coetzee (White Men With Weapons, Breasts, The Blue Period of Milton van der Spuy etc ) and written by John van de Ruit and Ben Voss.

The National Arts Festival newspaper Cue said of the show: “The audience loved this un PC slice of South African life!” Don’t miss out on the funniest show of the year!”

Green Mamba will run in the Square Space Theatre (UND) from September 2 to 29 from Tuesdays to Saturdays at 19h30 and Sundays at 18h30. There will be three performances at the Hilton Arts Festival on September 21 at 10h00 and 19h30 and on September 22 at 09h30. Book at Computicket.
