CAVEMAN REACHES 1000! (article first published : 2002-08-11)

Defending the Caveman by Rob Becker, produced by Pieter Toerien and starring Tim Plewman played its 1000th performance on July 28 in Cape Town. That alone is a record in South African theatre history. However, not only has Defending the Caveman played 1,000 performances but all 1,000 have been sold out!

Despite the recent fire at the theatre, Tim Plewman presents Defending the Caveman at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre until August 18. This marks his ninth Durban season by all accounts set to be another sell-out - before he returns to Pieter Toerien's Montecasino Theatre in Johannesburg for a season from September 17 to November 9. Then its back to Cape Town at Theatre on the Bay from November 12 to 24, his 16th Cape Town season.

On September 30 1997 Tim Plewman in Defending The Caveman opened for the first time at Theatre on the Bay directed by Rex Garner. The play was an instant hit and played to capacity from the next night repeating its New York success. South Africa was the second country in the world to see The Caveman which is now running in 19 capital cities.

Tim Plewman in Defending the Caveman will go down in South African Theatre History as the most popular comedy ever produced.

Booking at Computicket is advised. These shows sell out very quickly.
