HILTON COLLEGE THEATRE (article first published : 2002-04-22)

Well-known publicist and company manager Sue Clarence has now taken over the reins of managing the Hilton College Theatre since the retirement of Geoff Thompson. No stranger to the venue, she has been involved with Hilton for many years as she was co-founder with Geoff of the popular Hilton Arts Festival.

She reports that the second quarter of the year offers a wide selection of exciting productions for Hilton College Theatre in terms of comedy, music, dance and drama.

“The reason we manage to secure so many excellent productions is because the theatre world knows and appreciates the good support that the Hilton College Theatre attracts,” she says. “Our in-house booking system is very user-friendly. It requires you simply to make a phone call during normal office hours or use the after-hours answering service. Please remember that a telephonic booking is a commitment to attend a show. The Theatre collects money on behalf of the performers and is accountable to them.”

The dates for the 10th annual Natal Witness Hilton Arts Festival are September 20 to 22. Programme information will soon be available on the website www.artslink.co.za/hilton and the full programme and a booking form will be published in The Natal Witness on August 23. The Booking Kit will be available after that day.

Coming up in May is Millennium Funk which combines 11 local schools (May13 to 17); Ballet Highlights from South Africa’s newly-formed SA Ballet Company (May 21); the Ros Nicholson School of Ballet with The Little Mermaid - and Other Ballets (June 14 and 15) and Royal Flush (June 20 to 22), a celebration of the Golden Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II with Anthony Stonier and Shelley McLean.
