KEELY AND DU EXTENDS (article first published : 2002-03-16)

The hard-hitting, controversial contemporary drama thriller Keely and Du, currently running at the Square Space Theatre on the University of Natal Durban campus, is being extended for a week until March 23. (See review on these pages)

KickstArt - led by the multi-talented Greg King - is presenting one of Durban's first dramatic offerings for 2002. Keely and Du is a gripping drama by American playwright Jane Martin. Deeply thought-provoking, the play challenges issues such as the right to life, the power of forgiveness and the role of the Church in issues of choice, politics and morality.

Vera Clare and Aldo Brincat play two radical Christian fundamentalists who kidnap a young girl, Keely, who has been raped and is seeking to have an abortion. The pivotal role of Keely is played by Olivia Borgen. This suspense-filled story unfolds in the prison-like basement of a suburban neighbourhood, where the kidnappers' unimaginable plot is revealed, leading to a nail-biting chain of events and ultimately horrifying conclusion.

The production is designed and directed by Greg King, who first launched KickstArt with Ben Elton's thrilling black comedy Popcorn in 2000,

Book at Computicket or call 011 340 8000 for credit card bookings. Performances are nightly at 7:30pm from Tuesday until Saturday. There are no shows on Monday and Sunday.

NB: Audiences should be warned that Keely and Du contains some extremely explicit scenes and language which may cause offence to sensitive viewers.
