POETRY NEWS (article first published : 2002-02-20)

Among the luminaries in the poetry world represented in the Syllabus of the Speech and Drama Festival for 2002 2004 - such as Douglas Livingstone, Ted Hughes and W.H.Auden - are poets from the Live Poets Society in Durban.

The poems include one by Brett Beiles the new convener of Live Poets titled The Blue Note, inspired by Douglas Livingstone's Night Club Pianist and written in the Blue Note night club. Also featured are Three Beautiful Senses, a compelling poem composed by deaf poet Zohra Moosa; The Eagle written by Jack van Eyck, and three poems written by Hannah Lurie Sawbona, The Cowboy of Warmbad and The Pool Piper. The latter is an amusing poem about a pool cleaner gaining its freedom outside the confines of a swimming pool.
