CATCH KHALULU! (article first published : 2000-12-4)

Young theatre-goers can look forward to Catch Khalulu!, a zany, offbeat show being staged in the Playhouse Sanlam Loft from December 9 to 23. Directed and written by award-winning Durban artist, Greg King, the play has been inspired by Roald Dahlís Fantastic Mr Fox. It is set in the Valley of a Thousands Hills on a mountain called Phezulu, which has some of the most spectacular views to be found in KZN.

Khalulu is a very wise hare who lives under a big shady thorn tree at the top of Phezulu. Surrounding the mountain are three beautiful farms owned by three rich, greedy and nasty farmers who have no respect for the land on which they live or the people that work on their farms.

Khalulu is very content. Not only does he appreciate the beauty of his prime property, he also helps himself to the finest fresh vegetables which grow on the three surrounding farms. This infuriates the farmers who become determined to be rid of him and spend time plotting wicked ways to capture him, hence the title Catch Khalulu!. But Khalulu has always been too quick for the bad-tempered trio...

This new and quirky contemporary production portrays a uniquely South African adventure story, and is set to thrill and delight children.

Catch Khalulu! runs in the Playhouseís Sanlam Loft from December 9 to 23 with performances Tuesday to Saturday at 11h00 with extra performances on Wednesday and Saturday at 14h00 and a show on Sundays at 15h00.

Tickets R25 (R15 children). Book at TicketWeb outlets nationwide or www.ticketweb.co.za or call 0861 400 500. Credit card bookings on Dial-A-Seat on (031) 369-9444.
