EAGER ARTISTS (article first published : 2000-12-1)

Jerry Pooe's Eager Artists are set for a busy March to July. There are plans to revive My Voice My Life - a story telling musical about the life of Patti Nokwe. A musician diva of her times, she is the only KZN women who received an honorary award from the Metro Mayorís office in 2000, honouring her contribution in music industry. From a rural girl from Empushini to a Durban star and internationally respected performer, her inspiring story is told with poignancy, humour, song and music. The show recently returned to South Africa after a tour to the United States where it was seen by over 12 000 people and was rated very highly.

Shakespeare's Macbeth is a set work for Grade 11 first language. Macbeth on Trial extracts scenes from the play to generate a debate about who is guilty in the Bardís dramatic work to help pupils understand the play and simplify the story. After the play there is a question and answer session.

Also planned is an AIDS play One Life to Live addressing reality about AIDS, acceptance, caring, disclosing, role of society and other institutions. This was well received in Michigan USA where it was described as powerful.

In partnership with NICRO every Tuesday and Thursday, the Eager Artists conduct classes in music, drama, dance and poetry at Westville prison for juveniles awaiting trial.

All shows are available to tour schools and factory floors. During September and December, the Eager Artists will be back on tour in the USA. on tour. Contact Jerry Pooe on 083 732-1640 or fax (031) 206-2004.
