SANTA’S FOOTPRINTS (article first published : 2008-08-23)

Sharon de Villiers (22), a MA student at the University of KwaZulu Natal, has written and directed a new show titled Santa’s Footprints which is running at the Kwasuka Theatre in Greyville.

A percentage of the tickets will go to Feed The Babies Fund which has been in existence for over 30 years and provides supplementary feeding to approximately 8,000 babies monthly. Tickets are reasonably priced and offer the perfect opportunity for Durbanites to enjoy a refreshing show, while supporting up and coming talent. Corporate Companies are invited to support this event by buying tickets of 10 for clients and staff!

The play is about falling in-love against the magical backdrop of Christmas – but the real magic comes in when one looks at the cast which is made up of 12 young high school and University students ranging from 18 years old. The focus has steered away from South African issues and concentrates on comedy, following the lives of six unique pairs who all live in the fictional and enchanted village of Niggle … population 139!

“Theatre in Durban doesn’t always need to make you think about serious issues. One of the greatest gifts you can give to someone is to make them genuinely laugh, and that’s what I’m trying my best to do!” explains Sharon de Villiers, who has written and directed the piece.

Santa’s Footprints is an hour and a half long and runs at Kwasuka Theatre from August 15 to 29 at 19h00, except for August 28 when it starts at 15h30 to accommodate high school learners. With a sell out for the first few nights, tickets are going fast so don’t be disappointed. Tickets R30 booked on 031 305 6889.
