BROTHERS GRIMM (article first published : 2000-10-22)

The Actors Co-operative will present its highly popular Tales from the Brothers Grimm in the Durban Botanic Gardens over the December holidays from Mondays to Fridays at 11h00 from December 4 to 22.

This will be the Actors Co-op's third season of the popular dramatization of these age-old fairy tales. Since its first season in Easter this year Tales from the Brothers Grimm has sold out each performance and has been seen by literally thousands of children who enjoy the wonderful traditional yarns as well as the cleverly interwoven audience participation, which adds to the fun of the entertainment.

Tales from the Brothers Grimm features four of the writers' most popular stories: Ashputtel (Cinderella), Little Red Cap (Red Riding Hood), Hansel and Grettel, and Rumpelstiltskin. Depending on the heat, the performance is either at the sunny curator's garden or in the shade of the Egyptian pond. In the event of rain, the show moves indoors to the Mark Macken Theatre at the St. Thomas Road entrance to the Gardens.

The hour-long show is aimed primarily at under 12’s but families of all ages enjoy the outdoor performance, sitting on the grass and sipping cool drinks on a summer morning. Families are encouraged to bring picnics and stay behind after the show to explore the magnificent Botanic Gardens.

Tickets R15, adult or child, booked on (031) 262-6825. Booking also at Computicket outlet (remember that Computicket adds a service charge). Tickets at “the door” half-an-hour before the performance. Enquiries or block bookings (10 people or more less 10%) on the above number or on 082 563-8419.
