COMEDY REVOLUTION TOUR (article first published : 2008-05-12)

Nine comedians comprising three international comedians and six of South Africa's cutting edge humour specialists set out to wake-up 13 towns and three cities in 25shows which represent South Africa's longest, most rural and cutting edge stand-up tour.

The Comedy Revolution Tour, May 2008 runs from the Cape to KZN up to Gauteng, down to the Free State and back to Cape Town this May / June.

What makes this more than a "national" tour is that promoters Martin Evans and Glen Bo are pooling their contacts, expertise and talents and taking the show to towns most performers don't consider as viable. With three Internationals and six local performers, the tour is truly on a mammoth scale for the SA scene.

The tour starts in the Eastern Cape and tours up the coast through: Knysna, Plett, Port Elizabeth, East London, Grahamstown, Umtata and Coffee Bay. This, the first leg of the tour, is promoted by Martin Evans who is a Cape Town based International comedian who runs various comedy club evenings around the Mother City.

The tour then continues up the coast to KZN where Glen Bo promotes the shows through Margate, Amanzimtoti, Ballito, Durban, Waterkloof and Howick. A KZN based international comedian and recent nominee for the best comedian award in the 2008 Fools Awards, Glen runs comedy shows and clubs in the region. Martin Evans and Glen Bo are joined by Martin Davis from the U.K (a stand-up veteran and legend abroad) with the cream of the crop from around RSA, namely Trevor Gumbe and David Khosa from Johannesburg; Marty Kitu from Cape Town and Simmi Areff, Lil Paul and Jan Badenhorst from KZN.

Both proudly South African comedians Martin Evans and Glen Bo are now based in different parts of RSA and were the only two South African stand-ups to ever, live, work and tour the harsh UK circuit for over five years. They now bring their passion home for audiences, both small town and city alike.

The tour runs from the May 14 through to June 7, 2008. KZN performances include Amanzimtoti (May 21); the nightclub of the La Montang Hotel in Ballito (May 22), and Margate at Cock & Tail (May 23). There will also be performances at the Dockyard Theatre in Musgrave Centre (May 23 and 24).

Then it’s on to Bellissimo's in Howick (May 28) and Tapas in Waterkloof (May 30) as well as at Thunder Road Rock Diner in Durban (May 29) and in Umhlanga (May 31).

Tickets R50 to R100 (R30 students) available at the door. To reserve seats at a show, contact Jimmy on 083 348 4274. Age restriction for all shows is 18 years and older.
