BOBBIN AND THE MYSTIC PATHWAY (article first published : 2008-03-31)

For anyone wanting to amuse and entertain youngsters during the current holiday season, the Hexagon Theatre in Pietermaritzburg offers a delightful play for children directed by veteran director, Peter Mitchell. The show is mainly aimed at the five to eleven year-old age group but adults will love the humour and wacky characters.

Bobbin and the Mystic Pathway is a delightfully quirky tale written by Geoff Bamber of a town besieged by the evil Witch Phlegma, and the local town council's attempts to keep everything 'tickety-boo' by employing the lazy Bobbin as Guardian of the Mystic Pathway into town.

Toss in a Village Idiot, a Dragon Slayer, a Strolling Player and the Pied Piper of Polokwane, and you have the ingredients for mayhem and madness! All unite to defeat Phlegma, whose nose is severely out of joint due to the destruction of her Floorwiz GT (the latest in witches' brooms!).

The Hexagon has a good track record when it comes to Theatre for Children, having produced many plays over the years which have delighted and educated children. So long, in fact, that many of the theatreís first theatregoing kids are now bringing their own youngsters to the shows!

Bobbin and the Mystic Pathway runs at the Hexagon Theatre on the University of KwaZulu-Natalís Pietermaritzburg campus in Golf Road from April 9 to 12. Shows from Wednesdays to Saturdays at 10h00 with an extra matinee on Saturdays at 14h30 and evening performances on Friday and Saturday at 18h090. Tickets R25 for all ages (parents, too!) Bookings on 033 260 5537 or e-mail hexagon@ukzn.ac.za
