SHAKESPEARE: THE BARD'S BEST (article first published : 2008-02-2)

Shakespeare: The Bard's Best is a dynamic new production presented by SparepArts Productions (A Doll's House/Shades... of Marguerite Poland).

Directed by Julia Clarence and featuring Siobhan Schulz, Thomie Holtzhausen, S'dumo Mtshali, Zukiswa Ndunge and Lisa Vendiger, this unique production links Shakespeare's Hamlet, Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and Othello in an hilarious rollick of fun!

Schools have the opportunity of choosing three of the above text (over and above the Hamlet section) to comprise a 75-minute tailor-made production that best suits the needs of their pupils.

Using various extracts from Shakespeare's best loved plays, coupled with a unique South African commentary, pupils can enjoy the very best of one of the world's most renowned playwrights in the form that is most exciting: live action!

This insightful and stimulating production offers a useful exam and learning aid as well as being utterly entertaining. Suitable for grades 8 to 12, pupils are given the opportunity of watching as their Shakespeare set works come to life! The production seeks to bring the text alive and, not only make it exciting and thought-provoking, but relevant and accessible. The plays are linked thematically as they deal with issues of power corruption and the parent / child relationship weaving these scripts together with a unique and fun South African flavour.

Shakespeare: The Bard's Best will tour to schools from February 19 to March 20. Prices are on a sliding scale per head. All enquiries and bookings on 074 197 9938 or email sparepartsproductions@gmail.com
