KGOSI, THE MOON & THE BABOON! (article first published : 2007-12-10)

Aldo Brincat makes a welcome return to Durban with an enchanting magical story Kgosi, The Moon and The Baboon.

Kgosi is a little boy who lives by himself on the top of a tall fat hill. He is deeply in love with the moon. A baboon, which lives nearby grows jealous of Kgosi’s love for the moon and decides to steal it from the night skies. What follows is a delightful and wild chase as Kgosi seeks to rescue the moon and to return it to its rightful place in the sky. Along the way Kgosi meets a collection of strange and quirky people, each of which give Kgosi something to help him on his quest. All his troubles build into a delightful riddle and eventually the moon is discovered and set free to float in the heavens.

One of Durban’s favourite sons of the stage, Aldo Brincat was responsible for many award- winning productions such as King Kong, The House Husband, The Boy With A Clown’s Heart and Defending The Cavebrats.

Sporting two casts of four actors, it is directed by Ndiyapo Machacha and Gao Lemmenyane. Aldo has designed two versions of this wonderful production so die-hard fans can come back a second time to see a completely different rendition of the same tale.

Kgosi, The Moon & The Baboon! runs at Catalina Theatre, Wilson’s Wharf, from December 11 to 23 from Tuesdays till Sundays at 11h00. The show lasts 50 minutes. Tickets R45 include a complimentary boat ride in the harbour (R30 show only). Bookings through Catalina Theatre on 031 305 6889.
