A WOMAN’S BUM IS LIKE THE MOON (article first published : 2007-12-4)

A Woman’s Bum is like the Moon is a cutting edge one-woman show about contemporary living in existing circumstances. Described as a 21st century fairy tale, it is written and performed by Samantha Gray.

“It’s about absent fairies and giant cock-ups: these are “Grimm” fairy tales from the very large mouths of Alice, Wendy, Dorothy, Cinderella and Snow White,” say the organisers.

This piece of performance art is written and performed by actress, writer, poet and painter Samantha Gray, with directorial assistance from Karen Logan. Samantha and Karen have invited guest artists to perform with Samantha – poets, musicians, artists and singers.

“These are acute observations into women who have surrounded me. And, of course, the woman I have been, the woman I am, and the woman I probably will become,” explains Samantha. “The piece dissects women from a man’s perspective and also from an introspective viewpoint. Are happy endings and fairy tales what we make them? I am a woman. This feels good. Good. My piece is about identification, and not absolution.”

A Woman’s Bum is like the Moon is suitable for adult audiences only. It runs at Kwasuka Cutting Edge Theatre from December 11 to 23 from Tuesdays to Saturdays at 20h00 (Sundays at 18h00).
