IMBIZO AT PLAYHOUSE (article first published : 2007-11-8)

The Playhouse Company in conjunction with Ethekwini Municipality and the Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism (DACT) have committed to sponsor registration fees for 89 performing arts practitioners or administrators to participate in the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) to be will be held in Durban from June 19 to 24, 2008.

The Playhouse Company will hold an up-dating briefing session in this regard on November 16 at 12h00 in the Playhouse’s Alhambra Room. Interested parties are invited to attend this imbizo at which Ethekwini Municipality and DACT representatives will advise of the selection criteria in order for performing arts practitioners and administrators to qualify for this sponsorship.

The forthcoming ISPA Conference will be hosted in Africa for the first time ever by The Playhouse Company. This globally prestigious event will profile the great diversity of talent that flourishes in the performing arts sector of South Africa to the international arts community represented by ISPA. It will help heighten the international profile of South African artists and art forms, assuring them recognition beyond our own national borders. More than 100 leading arts executives representing major arts institutions, concert halls and festivals from across the globe will participate in this prestigious event.

ISPA is a not-for-profit international organisation (founded 1949) of over 600 executives and directors of concert and performance halls, festivals, individual artists, performing companies, government cultural officials; artists' managers; and other interested parties with a professional involvement in the performing arts from more than 50 countries in every region of the world, and in every arts discipline.

The purpose of ISPA is to develop, nurture, energize and educate an international network of arts leaders and professionals who are dedicated to advancing the field of the performing arts.
