TWO PMB SHOWS FOR GRAHAMSTOWN (article first published : 2007-06-29)

Two shows on their way to the National Arts Festival recently previewed at the Hexagon Complex on the University of KwaZulu-Natal Pietermaritzburg campus.

Ropess is directed by Daniella Staub and Madeline Oellermann with music by Ross Dorkin and text by Morwenna Bosch. The play is an eclectic collaboration of workshopped and experimental theatre. The directors and cast aim to take a fresh look at the oppression of women using movement, text, soundscaping and visual media. The performance entertains the audience so that they are able to experience difficult issues in an explosive, humorous and satirical way. Through the voices of four distinct women, the cast present an exciting, visually stimulating and thought provoking theatre piece.

Remembering You Like Something I'd Forgotten is written by Louise Buchler and directed by Hazel Barnes and Julia Stubbs. The piece is a unique exploration of memory between artists from South Africa and the United Kingdom. Lives entwine at a single moment in time: Miles has a fear of beetroot while Ingrid cannot stop cutting herself. Grace is still looking while Joseph just wants his mother to remember. Clementine has a secret and Josephine is still waiting. Pandora is just having a bad day. At the scene of an accident, seven lives converge

The two productions will appear on the Festival Fringe.
