ALADDIN AUDITIONS FOR SINGERS & DANCERS (article first published : 2007-06-16)

KickstArt in association with The Playhouse Company is presenting this year’s family Festive Season traditional pantomime, Aladdin. It will be staged in the Playhouse Drama Theatre over the festive season between November 21 and December 30.

Set in mystical Ancient China, Aladdin (played by Carol Trench, star of last year’s My Fair Lady) will be a sumptuous, magical production with innovative designs by super-talented Greg King. The production has been adapted, written and will be directed by Steven Stead, with choreography by Janna Ramos-Violante and musical direction by Evan Roberts.

Director Steven Stead (responsible for both of last year’s major festive season productions: My Fair Lady and Sleeping Beauty) is on the search for four talented singer/dancers to form a dynamic ensemble playing a variety of interesting characters, from citizens of Peking to Imperial slaves to spirits and genies.

Applicants should be between the ages of 18 and 35, have a strong dance background and be able to sing to a high level, with a particular ability to harmonise.

Auditions will be held on June 16 between 10h30 and 16h00 in Room 410 at the Playhouse main complex. The audition will consist of a group dance session, followed by a singing audition for those who get through the dancing. Applicants are requested to dress appropriately for dance, and bring the sheet music of a prepared song of their choice.

There is no need to book an appointment: artists interested in auditioning should arrive at 09h30 and put their names down on a list. Auditions will be held on a first come-first served basis. Rehearsals will be held at The Playhouse between October 22 and November 22, afternoons and evenings, and some mornings.
