SIFISO MAJOLA IN LADY ANNE (article first published : 2007-06-3)

The theatre production, Lady Anne, created by Khomiso Productions and The First Physical Theatre Company, will form part of the 2007 National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.

Lady Anne received outstanding feedback from both audiences and the media earlier this year at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival in Oudtshoorn.

The multifaceted production is based on the life and times of the extraordinary Lady Anne Barnard. By means of storytelling, dramatised poetry, movement, dance, live music and multimedia, thespians will be taken on a sensory journey that connects two continents, two centuries apart.

Antjie Krog’s popular poetry anthology, Lady Anne, forms the framework through which this controversial character - known for her remarkable South African journals - is viewed. Antjie Krog fuses her own experiences as modern woman, mother and wife with that of Anne Barnard.

Lady Anne is presented by the creators of the dance drama Vrypas: director Heike Gehring and internationally renowned choreographer and director of the First Physical Theatre Company, Gary Gordon.

Exciting Cape Town-based acting talent, Coba- Maryn Wilsenach, powerful dancer Sifiso Majola from KZN and enchanting cellist, Francois le Roux, combine their talents to produce a refreshingly complex, yet accessible product.

At the National Arts Festival, Lady Anne can be seen at The Tannery on July 3 (20h00); July 5 (10h00); July 6 (22h00) and July 7 (14h00 and 19h00).
