A-LIST ENTERTAINMENT AT ZJL (article first published : 2007-05-1)

The Zulu Jazz Lounge, situated in the Playhouse complex, has a put together an A-list roster of live entertainment for May.

May 3 to 5: Natalie Rungan, one of the jazz scene's favourite songsters (May 3) followed by the crack UKZN Jazz Ensemble (May 4) and popular Afro Centric back in action (May 5)

May 10 to 12: Leon Scharnick and Friends (May 10); Iva Band (May 11) and hot property multiple SAMA winner Simphiwe Dana making a prestige appearance (May 12).

May 17 to 19: Mfana Malambo and 4 Dimensions are set to pull some potent musical punches over two days (May 17 and 18 May) followed by keyboard whiz Evan Roberts and Friends who promise to take the ZJL stage by storm (May 19).

May 24 to 26 and May 31: Beet-Roots and Chacklass featuring Zakhele Band (May 24 and 25) followed by Send the Fire with Martin Sigamoney (May 26). Andile Mseleku returns to consolidate her ZJL popularity stakes, rounding off the month’s roster on May 31.

Gigs start at 21h00 and cover charges are R20 (Thursdays) and R30 (Fridays and Saturdays).

Make an evening of it and dine in fine style at the award-winning Piatto Mediterranean Restaurant (Emerging Restaurant Winner of the 2007 Tourism Service Excellence Award Family Restaurant of the Year), prior to taking in some superb live jazz downstairs at The Zulu Jazz Lounge. Both venues are situated in The Playhouse complex, on the corner of Smith Street and Albany Grove.
