HA HA COMEDY FESTIVAL (article first published : 2000-08-18)

Some of South Africa’s top comedians will descend on Durban for two nights at the BAT Hall in the BAT Centre in the small craft harbour on August 24 and 25 August at 20h00.

Durban will get a chance to laugh with a cross-section of both established comedians and the hottest new talent. There will be a two-hour show on each evening including the wit, repartee and wisecracks of John Vlismas, Cokey Falkow, David Kau, Al Prodgers, Colin Moss, Chris Forrest and Trevor Clarence.

John Vlismas and Colin Moss are well known to local audiences. They worked together in Durban six years ago whilst still living in Durban on the “improv” comedy show, Comedy Games with Alyn Adams and Patrick Kenny. Together with Al Prodgers, they have all become familiar faces on TV.

Chris Forrest was recently signed by SA comedy legend Joe Parker and can now be seen all over the Gauteng circuit with regular appearances at: The Comedy Bar at the Randburg Waterfront, Foundation Cafe in Melville, Hurricanes and Carnival City. David Kau hails from the mother city and is leading the way for black comedians. He is presently working on Yfm's morning show with Phat Joe.

The new kid on the block, 23 year-old Trevor Clarence has lived in Johannesburg most of his life. His under-played, quiet, wry style of comedy has made him immediately popular on the Johannesburg circuit and earned him something of a cult following.

All these comedians regularly work the local circuit at venues such as Hurricanes, Foundation Cafe, La Habana, The Funny Farm and Carnival City and have all been heard on 5FM and Highveld Stereo.

The Ha Ha Festival is brought to Durban by East Coast Radio who will be profiling the event and sponsors Dial-a-Bed. Tickets R35 from Computicket or at the door.
