ONE FOR THE ROAD (article first published : 2007-02-16)

Harold Pinterís modern stage classic, One for the Road, directed by Pascar Dube will have a short season in the Playhouse Loft in March.

One for the Road is a frightening study of political torture set in an unnamed police state. A family of three (whose crime is never revealed) has been beaten into submission and interrogated individually by their sadistic oppressor, Nicholas, who consumes numerous glasses of whisky as he toys with his victims.

The production reflects on South Africaís own past of violence during the apartheid era and the propaganda used to support those who were in power.

The abuse happens on every level, emotionally, psychologically and physically, and recalls assassinations of Mr and Mrs Griffith Mxenge, Matthew Goniwe, Steve Biko, Mrs Slovo and many other political activists. The cast for this production includes Sdumo Mtshali, Junior Ngidi, Jessica Jamison and Siphiwe Madlala.

One for the Road runs from March 9 to 11 at 19h00 in the Playhouse Loft. Book at Computicket.
