IDEAS FOR KWASUKA (article first published : 2007-01-28)

The Kwasuka Theatre in Greyville Durban is calling for innovations, ideas, projects and shows for the 2007/08 cycles.

After the highly-successful second Musho! International Festival of One and Two Person Productions held recently, many of the festival participants have offered their skills to the Kwasuka management to become an integral part of the programming, vision and activities of this quaint landmark theatre.

A productive meeting between Kwasuka boss Themi Venturas and the Musho! participants was held and some strong ideas have emerged.

Kwasuka Theatre aims to be the home of cutting edge theatre in KZN and to showcase new and innovative performing arts of all genres with special focus on the creation of new South African works. Coupled with the performance programming, the theatre aims to develop their theatre management skills and theatre administration skills.

Five areas of focus have been highlighted to facilitate the year’s programming. Should any interested parties want to link up with the process, or want their work considered to be staged at the Kwasuka, they should contact The Kwasuka theatre publicist who will put them in touch with the project leader concerned.

The areas of focus are Theatre; Music; Film and Audio-visual; Dance and Venue Ambiance and Decor.

Meetings of each focus group are currently taking place and interested theatre practitioners are warmly invited to feed into these meetings and present their ideas. The focus groups will be reporting back to the plenary on February 10 at 09h00 at Kwasuka.
