UNDER ETHEKWINI SKIES (article first published : 2006-09-18)

Under eThekwini Skies, a Heritage Day Celebration featuring a number of South Africa’s most respected and popular artist will take place at uShaka Marine World on September 24. The day promises to be filled with song and dance and will consist of four segments.

The Eastern Dance extravaganza at 11h30 will be produced by Unesh Morar and choreographed by Shivani Kara, featuring the Kendra Dance Academy.

Afrikaans Trio, Eden famous for songs like Ek hou van jou, will warm up the hearts of female fans and treat the audience to their most popular and latest releases.

The Afrotenors - three of South Africa’s finest vocalists – will sing classics like Nessun Dorma, O Sole Mio and Time to say Goodbye. They claimed their popularity with African classic songs such as Pata, Pata, Meadowlands and Malaika and will breathe classical and powerful operatic life into songs that are solidly part of South Africa’s history. The Afrotenors will launch the evening, eventually ntroducing someone who is generally considered to have one of the finest singing voices in South Africa, Gloria Bosman.

Gloria is one of South African artists who had the honour of singing for both outgoing and incoming South African presidents when she sang for Thabo Mbeki at his Christmas dinner and for Nelson Mandela at his 80th birthday celebrations at Gallagher estates, Midrand. Her stage career includes performances on various theatrical productions including SA Love - a musical of South African love songs produced by Christo Leach, Jubilation - a gospel based musical directed by Ivor Jones, Woman in Spirit and The Lion and the Lamb - an award winning play by actor and director, John Kani. Gloria will perform from 20h00 to 21h30.

Tickets R70 per show or R140 for the entire day. More information from 031 328 8000. Booking is at Computicket.
