NOTTINGHAM ROAD PINK FESTIVAL (article first published : 2006-09-18)

The KwaZulu-Natal hills will come alive from November 24 to 26 when Nottingham Road hosts its first annual Pink Festival”.

Presented by The Nottingham Road Tourism and Information Centre, in association with Very Very Big Productions, visitors can expect a weekend of extravagance, music, theatre, dance and magical meandering!

While showcasing a selection of the country’s top performers and shows, the festival will also dish up the finest cuisine, complemented by wine and beer tastings.

And if you were wondering about the preoccupation with pink, remember that fashionistas have proclaimed pink to be the “new black”. Having surpassed its pre-conceived sexual stereotypes, the colour pink is now boldly worn by the most macho of men.

Even trend-setter Picasso fell in love with the subtle hue and enjoyed his very own “pink period” – a time when his work was inspired by theatre and magical circus adventures. So why not follow the famed artist’s lead by diving into drama, dousing yourself with culture and celebrating the countryside?

And, in keeping with the fine traditions of the Midlands Meander, the festival is by no means exclusively for the “pink set” - it will also offer children’s shows, horse rides, hiking trails and a visual feast of arts and crafts.

With its unique charm, the Nottingham Road area offers the perfect palette for such a festival.

Being the inaugural Festival the organisers have chosen quality over quantity, so make sure you book in advance. For more details contact the Nottingham Road Tourism and Information Centre on 033 266 6308 or email: nots@bundunet.com

Coming soon, the website www.pinkfestival.co.za will provide information on accommodation, a full programme of events and ticket booking details.

So head for the hills and paint the town pink!
