THANK YOU VERY MUCH (article first published : 2006-08-15)

Hurray for Wallyhood! Durban writer-performer Clinton Marius is back with a new, off-the-wall stage comedy. Thank You Very Much is an outrageous send-up of Hollywood and the cult of the celebrity, and includes parodies of several famous songs and people.

The current obsession with stardom and the awards the rich and famous heap upon themselves are subjects of laughter in this light-hearted satire. Celebs that come under fire in this whacky comedy include Paris Hilton, George Michael, Whoopi Goldberg, Colin Farrell, Tina Turner, Cher, Ruby Wax, Angelina Jolie and Ellen Degeneres, among a whole clutch of others.

“Most of the characters I'm playing are female,” says Clinton Marius. “Having bared all in Uncut - The Penis Monologues, I thought with this new show it would be a good idea to go in the opposite direction completely!”

Presented in the format of the Oscars, Thank You Very Much includes a multimedia component of zany film clips produced in collaboration with Durban University of Technology's Department of Video Technology, under the direction of Ian Cassels.

Stand-up comedian Eubulus Tracey heads a component of guest appearances on film. The production empowers people who watch TV rather than go to the theatre to take up the challenge and do both at once!

Thank You Very Much is directed by veteran theatre all-rounder Caroline Smart, and runs in the Playhouse Loft from September 2 to 17. Pre-booked tickets for this adult comedy presented by Copy Dog Productions in association with the Playhouse Company, cost R55 (R45 Tuesdays). Tickets at the Playhouse box office sold an hour before performances will cost R65. Booking is on 031 369 9596 or 031 369 9540, at Computicket outlets, or online at www.computicket.co.za
