MAN FOR ALL SEASONS (article first published : 2000-07-23)

Schools are booking fast for the Kwasuka Theatre Companyís production of A Man for All Seasons which sees Pieter Scholtz playing the part of Sir Thomas More who refused to bow to King Henry VIII of Englandís desire to waive laws so that he could put aside his first wife, Katherine of Aragon, and marry Anne Boleyn.

The production will be directed by Jacky Vermaas and the cast includes Vita nominee for best actor Michael Gritten as Cromwell, and nominee for best new script of a South African play John van de Ruit as Richard Rich. Playing Moreís wife, daughter and son-in-law are Caroline Smart, Angela Dodds and Bryan Hiles. Dennis Schauffer handles the pivotal role of the Common Man, Patrick Collyer is Norfolk and Hugo le Roux is the Spanish Ambassador.

The show performs for schools at the Durban College of Education from July 31 to August 11 at 09h00 and 13h00 daily. Admission fee for block bookings is R15 per pupil (no charge for accompanying teachers).

There will be one public performance of A Man for All Seasons on August 9 (Womenís Day) at the Durban College of Education at 19h30. Booking for all performances is essential. Phone Kwasuka on (031) 309-2236.
