VEGETABLE POETRY (article first published : 2000-07-20)

Susan Monteregge, Jacky Vermaas and Pertulia Ramaphala will present readings from The Sex Life of Vegetables and other poems from The Garden Going on Without Us by Lorna Crozier at Kwasuka Theatre from August 18 and 19 at 19h30.

Canadian poet Lorna Crozier appeared at the annual Durban poetry event Poetry Africa in 1997. Her work is informed by the Saskatchewan landscape of her birth. Inside the Sky first appeared in 1975, followed in 1985 by The Garden Going on Without Us which is now in its third print, making it one of the most popular collections of contemporary poetry in Canada. Some of Crozierís books include Angels of Flesh, Angels of Silence (1988), Inventing the Hawk (1992), which won her the 1992 Governor Generalís Award for Poetry, and Saving Grace.

Actress Susan Monteregge and director Jacky Vermaas are well-known to Durban audiences. Pertulia Ramaphala is a lecturer in the Technikon drama technology department. Also an actress, she is the manager of the Kwasuka Theatre and was one of the three winners of last yearís FNB Vita special award in memory of The Mercury former arts editor and drama critic David Coleman.
