FARAWAY FOREST (article first published : 2006-06-21)

Just in time for the July school holidays is The Faraway Forest, an interactive children’s play that deals with issues like helping others and saving the environment as well as not cheating, lying and stealing.

The show has already performed to children’s homes and has been excellently received. Ms Pumblebrush, the "baddie" in the play, wants to destroy the forest and build a freeway through the forest. She looks for help from her brother who is on the local council. All the creatures of the forest band together to save Faraway Forest. Their united vision overcomes their individual differences in a lively adventure with lots of interactive moments and songs.

The show is directed by Koobeshen Naidoo who has appeared in 4 ding-a-lings and a ding, To House; Dr Marie; Comedy Shop and Beyond Calvary. The cast features drama teacher Henry Ramkissoon (Gramps) who made his debut in 4 dinga-lings and a ding and who now writes and performs in Lotus FM’s radio drama SA Law. Kumseela Naidoo (Ms Pumblebrush) has taken part in numerous productions like 4 ding-a-lings and a ding, A Cookie in the Kitchen; There's Something about Dr Marie and Comedy Shop.

Henry Ramkissoon also directs and writes the drama serial SA Law which features Kumseela Naidoo in the lead role as well as Henry Ramkissoon.

Also in the cast of The Faraway Forest are Nirvana Naidoo, Thabsile Ndlela, Lazola Dabula and Sikhelela Dlamini.

The Faraway Forest runs at Catalina Theatre from June 27 until July15 with shows daily at 11h00 (except Monday). Tickets R40 include a goodie bag and a boat ride. The show runs at 55 minutes with no interval. To book call Liesl or Janice on 031 305 6889. Block booking discounts or charity fundraisers through Glenda on 031 305 7612.
