CRASHING THE NIGHT (article first published : 2000-07-19)

Paul Slabolepszy's hysterical new comedy Crashing the Night had audiences rolling in the aisles in Grahamstown when it appeared on the fringe of the Standard Bank National Arts Festival. Durban audiences are in for a treat when this hilarious show plays the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from August 29.

The play is set in an adult entertainment club in a "dorp" somewhere in Mpumalanga. Two well-heeled WASP executives head for an annual company conference, one approaching the end of a stormy career (played by James Borthwick) and the other firmly ensconced at the top of the corporate ladder (played by Graham Hopkins). On the way they pay a casual visit to the club opening up a veritable Pandora's Box of small town chicanery, skullduggery and intrigue.

Directed by Megan Willson, the play also features Sello Sebotsane as the nightclub owner, Camilla Waldman as a “hostess” with an attitude and Paul Slabolepszy as an explosive former boxing champion.

A limited number of shows have been earmarked for charities, clubs and organisations to purchase for sale as fundraisers, offering tickets at a major discount rate. Those interested in buying a performance can call (031) 202-9093 (office hours) or email pubmat@iafrica.com (See review in Festival section)
