BOSMANíS WOMEN (article first published : 2006-06-2)

Some called Herman Charles Bosman a genius, others called him a criminal but one certainty is that it was never dull or easy being a Bosman woman - in or out of his stories!

In the ColaborArt production, Bosmanís Women, Barbie Meyer and Monique Rutter capture the genius that was Herman Charles Bosman Ė from a womanís point of view. Shifting between reality and fiction, they unfold the truth about the women in his personal life as well as the elusive, whimsical women of his Bushveld stories.

Bosman wrote his magical short stories with the hand of a romantic. Barbie Meyer has chosen three of these stories and brought to life his incredible women of the veld: beautiful, strong and highly desirable. Witty, comical, and thought provoking, Bosmanís Women offers the works of a fascinating South African author as well as insight into his personal and colourful life.

Bosmanís Women is directed by Bets Basson formerly a speech and drama critic in Johannesburg, as well as the head of the drama department at the Johannesburg College of Educationís Centre for Gifted Children. An honorary member of the Board of Adjudicators and has published three books on drama, she directed Barbie Meyerís last Bosman success, which was performed countrywide.

Before the production heads for Grahamstown, there will be performances at the Riverbend Conference Centre on June 14 and 15 at 19h30. The venue opens at 18h00. Take along a picnic basket and cushion to enjoy under the stars before the show. Tickets R50pp and booking is essential on 082 818 4552 or 039 315 0821.

Bosmanís Women has been scheduled into Vickyís for 10 performances during the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.
