LIBBY ALLEN SHOWS (article first published : 2006-05-21)

Durban producer Libby Allen is directing Michael Died for the Fringe of the 2006 National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. The cast includes Danielle Perlman, Sean de Klerk and Cara Markewicz. (See separate article in Festivals)

She is also directing another show which will appear on the 2006 Fringe and this is a one-man performance poetry piece written and performed by Iain Robinson titled One Mind, One Mouth, One Mic. (See separate article in Festivals)

Last year in Grahamstown, Libby Allen directed Cherry Under My Foot written by Josette Eales in which Josette appeared with Jana Ramos-Violante. The production received good response from media and audience alike and will move to the Playhouse in its New Stages Festival later this year.

Having graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2005, with an honours (cum laude) degree in Drama and English studies, Libby Allen is currently writing a novel through the University of KwaZulu-Natal Masters Creative Writing programme.

After performing in numerous productions for the University (Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet and Spoils of War, which toured to Belgium in January 2005) as well as at the National Arts festivals in 2003 and 2004, she has now turned her focus to directing.

Apart from her novel and the two productions going to Grahamstown, she is occupying her energies with new works for the later part of 2006, as well as touring with a children's production titled The Tail Of Cuckoo Putu, co-written and performed with Dylan Edy.

Dylan and Libby also run the PANSA Blue Monday Platform for new performers held regularly at the Catalina Theatre.

Check the Fringe Booking Kit which is due out shortly for venues and times.
