KWAKA KWABA NJE (article first published : 2006-04-24)

Artists Productions is to present Kwake Kwaba nje a 2006/7 Zulu set work for grades 10, 11 and 12.

It is adapted and directed by a 2002/3 Durban Theatre Award winner Skhumbuzo Nsele. This is your only chance to experience a highly respected award winning author’s “Condy Nxaba” works, a former teacher, and member of Usiba Organisation.

Skhumbuzo Nsele started his career as an actor on various productions such as that of Jerry Pooe’s Animal Farm and performed on world stages with Welcome Msomi’s Umabatha. He is also a very talented voice-over artist having featured on a number of Ukhozi FM’s radio dramas like Soul City. He is also been a director of Isigcino Ngesami for two years and has produced Percussion Explosion, Ancestors Are Calling.

Kwake Kwaba nje is a socio-political story set during the times of the brutal apartheid era, depicting the role of religion during those times. The story unfolds when families were torn apart to flee the land of their forefathers or were forcefully removed. The production also shares the pain of freedom fighters who were detained and some who disappeared in detention through mysterious ways.

Kwaka Kwaba Nje will be staged at the Playhouse from May 3 to 5 with two shows per day at 10h00 and 13h00. On May 6, shows will be at 14h00 and 18h00. Tickets R15 per scholar. Schools are advised to book for their learners to avoid disappointment before May 2.

Bookings can be made through Computicket or the Playhouse box office on 031 369 9596 or 031 369 9540 or dial-a-seat facility on 031 369 9555. For more information contact Skhumbuzo Nsele on 082 216 4522.
