LORD OF THE FLIES (article first published : 2006-04-21)

William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies is recognised as a modern classic. It is, therefore, not surprising that it is so widely taught at high school level.

Written in 1955, the novel is an allegorical adventure story about a group of boys stranded on an island after a plane crash who, despite the efforts of some of the boys to form an organised society, revert to brutal savagery because of the lack of effective authority figures.

Nigel Williams’ stage adaptation has been brought to life by 14 talented and creative young men who were brave enough to immerse themselves in this challenging, thought-provoking and exciting journey.

The production will be of benefit to any learners who have studied Lord of the Flies as an English set work or are studying Dramatic Arts.

It will be staged from May 9 to 13 at 19h00 in the DC Thompson Hall at Durban High School. Tickets R20 with bookings on 031 277 1500.
