THE LOSER RETURNS! (article first published : 2006-04-9)

The legend returns! Funnyman Aaron McIlroy is back by popular demand in The Loser. This opens for a season at Hillcrest’s Heritage Theatre on April 12. Hold onto your sides as Aaron hits the highs and lows of manipulative public address in his own uniquely devastating fashion - via a bunch of wacky stage persona led by Truscott Price, the world’s greatest motivational speaker.

Aaron’s smash hit comedy has played countless public and corporate venues throughout the country over the past few years, drawing back the curtain on motivational speaking at mind-numbing conferences and seminars, delighting countless stage and supper theatre audiences.

The Loser pushes the limits on corporate motivation and “sales-speak”. A multitude of outlandish and manically deprived individuals are introduced in McIlroy’s wacky style. The audience meet Truscott Price, a most unconventional motivational speaker, whose offbeat leaps in logic and ill-fated tragi-comic past are a complete challenge to his “magnetic” appeal and illogical positivism. The show is jam-packed with high energy antics interspersed with some great rock featuring Queen, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Lou Vega and not forgetting the “King of Rock” - Elvis.

Co-written and directed by Sue Monteregge, The Loser’s musical direction is by Tim Pullen, with lighting by master of genre Mike Broderick. With its tradition of providing light relief the show takes a wickedly funny look at the sacred cows of motivational speaking. A must see for anyone needing a good laugh and a thoroughly enjoyable evening’s entertainment.

Early booking for The Loser on 031 765 4197 is strongly advised. Tickets (including starters, main course and show) cost R150 per person from Wednesdays to Saturdays at 19h00 (R120pp Tuesdays at 19h00 and Sundays at 12h30).
