BLUE MONDAY PLATFORM (article first published : 2006-02-7)

Blue Monday Platform is a successful youth initiative which a successful run last year at both the Hilton Festival and the Catalina Theatre with the performance of The Best Of and intends on growing from strength to strength in 2006.

Taking place every three months, The Blue Monday Platform is a PANSA and Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism sponsored initiative to get youth more involved in the performing and visual arts and to appreciate them, either as participants, audience members or art buyers.

The Blue Monday Platform is an open stage that showcases local talent. It welcomes any up-coming poet, musician, playwright, comedian or mime artist to this free space where their views can be aired and performances presented in front of a live audience. A number of acts have gained employment as a result of the platform as venue managers and producers are often in the audience.

“The Blue Monday Platform has been running for over a year now and has seen many different talents from dance to beat-box,” says Dylan Edy, Blue Monday Platform committee member. “Acts like The Neon Anthems and many more wonderfully talented performers have developed their repertoire and graced the stage. Each performer has fifteen minutes to get the message across to the audience. Entrance is free and it is a wonderful evening out, why not come and join us?”

The next Blue Monday Platform takes place on March 6.

Performers wishing to book a slot should contact Dylan on 083 671 8531 or Josette on 083 672 7732.
