JACK & HIS BIG STALK (article first published : 2006-01-10)

The festive season adult panto Jack & His Big Stalk is off to Hilton College Theatre for one performance only on January 27! Having kept Durban audiences shocked, outraged and inspired to write to the papers, Maritzburg and the Midlands has a chance to see what all the fuss was about.

Here’s the publicity blurb, written in the send-up style of the pantomime: “Take a tiny …in every respect …. boy ( Marc Kay as Jack is back as another spectacularly under-endowed hero), a dipsomaniacal mother (Anthony Stonier who has been researching this character for most of his life), her identical (??!!) but dim-witted twin sister (Peter Court), a cow with attitude (Dean Roberts is miscast as Clover, a depressingly udderless cow who nonetheless thoroughly enjoys milking time), a man eating Giantess (Giant Tess …get it?) , played by Rowan Bartlett and a very cross Princess (Tarryn Stevenson)”.

The show is set on a tropical island with “loads of popular Latin flavoured songs, magic beans, death defying sexual innuendo, topical jokes and a host of colourful characters!

Jack & His Big Stalk will have one performance at Hilton College Theatre on January 27 at 19h30. Bookings on 033 383 0126 or theatre@hiltoncollege.com
